Today is my 31st Birthday! Not only that but it’s
eight years ago today that I started working at Kelk Photography!
(yes my first
day of a real job was on my birthday) Best present ever!
I started out as a pretty quiet 23 year old who had just
graduated from Art school, still not really knowing what I wanted to do.
I applied to every employment agency in town looking for a
job, when that didn’t work I printed out 50 C.V’s and walked around to every
creative job place I could think of.
I finally came in the door at Kelk and met Barry for the
first time. He explained to me that there manager/darkroom tech person had just
left and they were looking for someone.
He also said they were with a recruitment agency in town, I
said “oh really which one, cause I’m with all of them!”
Yes that’s right an employment agency couldn’t match up a
photographer with a photography firm!
Anyways I call Barry probably every week for about three
weeks till I got an interview and ended up getting the job! Persistence pays
off!
Without Kerry and Barry pushing me over the years I don’t
think I’d be half the photographer I am today. They just slowly encouraged me
to do the jobs
I wasn’t really all that confident in doing and before you know
it I’m photographing weddings on my own. (Something I said at Art School I
would never ever do and now I love doing!)
My work is still growing and changing and I’m starting to
define my style more and more.
My husband and I have a pretty big year coming up this year as
we are expecting our first baby at the end of July. (It’s going to be the most
photographed baby on the planet.)
Belinda and I have been working on some maternity shoots
recently and have added a sneak peek at the bottom of the page.
I have just put together a little collection of photos, they
are mostly from the past three years.
Some commercial work, portraits and
weddings along with some of my personal work too.
Enjoy! – Nicola Wilhelmsen
